In The End
As strange as it may sound, I've thought a lot about death and dying lately. Maybe it's because my friend Jo is writing a book on the subject, or because I work with some trust-fund clients and often hear of the passing that brought wealth into their lives. Maybe it's just because I'm at that age where my parents call more frequently with the news of some friend or relative who has died. In any case, it's been on my mind, and with it comes the question of whether I've got things sufficiently in order financially, in the event of my own death.
I know this isn't a particularly sunny subject, which is why many of us put off doing the work of wills, beneficiaries, and such in the first place. But the peace of mind that comes from knowing I'm financially organized totally beats the pain of pulling it together.
Take A Minute:
Are you financially organized as it concerns your heirs?
Make A Minute:
If you don't have a will, get one immediately, or update the one you've got. Update all insurance policies with the right beneficiary information. And put all the account information pertaining to your debts and assets in one place, and let 2 or 3 people closest to you know where you keep it.
I'm off to call my attorney, because my will definitely needs a makeover. I'll keep enjoying life in the meantime.
