On this topic, those more intimately involved with the non-profit from a leadership or volunteer standpoint should also share passion for the mission and vision. There are a lot of resume padders out there. In time, that strategy becomes obvious as value is not added...and that is a bad brand.
Find groups you love so the resources you offer make sense in your busy schedule and yes, the value you bring will be recognized.
