Default Resume Best Practices

Those who read many resumes tend to scan (I start at the end and read backwards to see a story). Resumes are a tool to communicate HOW you accomplish what you have accomplished. Therefore, instead of simply listing job description as many do, list what, why and how.

- In a summary, do something different that outlines the impact you will make moving forward. No objectives like you want a job where you can apply your skills for career advancement (or whatever) NO KIDDING!

- Hit the reader between the eyes with the most impactful words to the left
Short and easy to read points with numbers. Like a magazine ad you scan - make sure the reader is getting the message.

- Usually one page per decade of experience works - as long as the info is relevant.

- Create a master doc and make changes pulling on your relevant skill and experience based on what you learn about a position and company - your resume is a fluid and changing document. - by the way, always keep one updated with new accomplishments you make over six month periods.

- Don't be shy. Mention appropriate awards and recognition.

- Don't waist space with info like - references provided upon request - that is another NO KIDDING.
