Default Seth Godin on "Silly Traffic"

I like reading Seth Godin because of his direct style and wonderful parallels. His recent post "Silly Traffic" is another example. Website = retail traffic.

I have heard a fair amount of struggling business owners brag about Alexa ratings and website traffic. Bragging about the numbers while producing a blank look when asked about who is sticking around and conversion rates (buying your / hiring you).

Reminds me of the dot com hay-day when entrepreneurs where bragging about "burn rates" as recruiting sales features as they burned cash right out of business.

Many high traffic site owners argue advertising revenue is where they will win. Is that sustainable if the traffic is not relevant? Godin offers great advice in what traffic to care about.

What do you think?
