Target: Configuresoft, Inc., Colorado Springs, CO
EMC, a leader in information infrastructure solutions, will buy Configuresoft, a privately held provider of server configuration, change, and compliance management software, for an undisclosed amount. Company officials indicate Configuresoft will operate as part of EMC's Resource Management Software Group and keep most of its 150 employees.

Target: Solidcore Systems, Cupertino, CA
Computer security software company McAfee will acquire Solidcore Systems, a provider of solutions that helps companies protect ATMs, cash registers, and point-of-sale systems. McAfee will pay $33 million for Solidcore.

M&A - Generic Drugs
Buyer: Novartis AG, Basel, Switzerland
Target: Unit of Ebewe Pharma, Wien, Austria
Novartis, a leading pharmaceutical company that sells generic drugs through its Sandoz subsidiary, will buy the specialty-generics business of Austrian drug maker Ebewe Pharma in a deal valued at $1.26 billion. The acquisition will allow Novartis to add several standard chemotherapies to its growing portfolio of cancer drugs.

Buyer: Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ
Target: Cougar Biotechnology, Inc., Los Angeles, CA
Diversified health care giant Johnson & Johnson will buy Cougar Biotechnology, a developer of cancer drugs with an experimental treatment for prostate cancer, for approximately $970 million. The deal will strengthen Johnson & Johnson's oncology business.
