ICF International, a global professional services firm, will acquire market research firm Macro International in order to expand its health-related consulting business. ICF will pay $155 million for Macro.

M&A - Computer Hardware


Buyer: Rackable Systems, Inc., Fremont, Ca


Target: Silicon Graphics, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA


Rackable Systems, a provider of data center solutions, will acquire Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI), the one-time technology giant known for high-performance computing, for $25 million. At its height, in 1997, SGI employed nearly 11,000 people and had sales of $3.7 billion. The company is currently operating under bankruptcy protection.

M&A - Energy & Utilities


Buyer: Suncor Energy Inc., Calgary, Canada


Target: Petro-Canada, Calgary, Canada



Suncor Energy will buy rival Petro-Canada, combining two of Canada's largest oil companies in an all-stock deal valued at about $15 billion. The Wall Street Journal reports that both companies are heavily involved in oil-sands production, a type of exploration that involves mining tar-like sands and coverting them to usable oil.

M&A - Home Furnishings & Housewares Retail


Buyer: Sleepy's, Inc., Bethpage, NY


Target: Dial-a-Mattress, Long Island City, NY



Sleepy's, a mattress chain with nearly 700 stores in 11 states, will buy bankrupt Dial-a-Mattress, a company founded in 1976 that applied the concept of phone sales to mattress delivery. Dial-a-Mattress locations in New England, Connecticut, Philadelphia, central and southern New Jersey, and Florida are franchises and will not be affected by the acquisition.

Buyer: Rockwell Collins, Inc., Cedar Rapids, IA


Target: DataPath, Inc., Duluth, GA



Rockwell Collins, a provider of aviation communications and electronics solutions, will acquire DataPath, a provider of communications technology, in a deal worth approximately $130 million. Rockwell Collins employs nearly 20,000 people; DataPath has more than 600 employees.

Buyer: Fidelity National Information Services, Inc., Jacksonville, FL


Target: Metavante Technologies, Inc., Milwaukee, WI


Fidelity National Information Services, a leading provider of technology services to the banking industry, will acquire Metavante Technologies, a company that delivers banking and payment technologies to approximately 8,000 financial services firms and businesses worldwide. The all-stock deal, valued at about $2.94 billion, will create the world's largest provider of integrated payment and financial processing services.
