Accenture recently did a global study of customer service and customer expectations around the globe and released a report today titled "Customer Satisfaction in the Multi-Polar World: Accenture 2007 Global Customer Service Satisfaction Survey Report". 3,500 consumer respondents were surveyed which is only a very teeny-tiny fraction of the global community, but it's still interesting to see what they came up with.
The bottom line is that customers' expectations are increasing every year and companies need to tailor their service according to each customer - especially

those companies doing business on a global scale. What a Brazilian customer may expect from your company could be totally different from what a French customer expects.
