A well respected old-time speaker in the Denver parts (and far reaching from here I am sure), Joe Sabah, is the founder of the Denver chapter of the National Speakers Association among many other things. After a serious stroke, Joe keeps doing what he love and works very hard to teach and inspire great and inspiring public speakers.
Joe sent the following email and asks a great question...Who are the influencers of your life?
I sometimes refer to the four men who have had a tremendous influence on my life as "My Four Dads".
Here's What I've Learned from My Four Dads ...
Dad #1: Dale Carnegie taught me, "Don't criticize, condemn, or complain and give honest sincere appreciation." This philosophy has become a major part of who I am.
Dad #2: Dr. Norman Vincent Peale taught me (and the entire world), "The Power of Positive Thinking." This phrase has been a source of comfort in times of challenge.
Dad #3: Cavett Robert taught me, "Find something that you enjoy doing so much that you'd gladly do it for nothing ... then you get good enough at it, that you actually get paid for it." For nearly 30 years I've followed Cavett's advice. In addition I asked those in my classes, seminars and in books I've written "Are You Singing the Song You Came to Sing?"
Dad #4: Jesus Christ taught me in MT 7:7, "Ask and you shall receive ... Seek and ye shall find ... and knock and it'll be opened." This is something I not only use in my life every day, I teach it to all my students as well.
These four surrogate dads have given me the best education, philosophy of life, and guidance that I use every day.
My Dad, Moses Sabah and my Mom, Anna Sabah came to America from Lebanon. I became their first child to be born in the USA ... YIPPEE!
My dad, Moses Sabah died when I was about nine. My Mom raised me and four siblings by herself. Both Mom and Dad have influenced me in a very positive manner.
PS I'd be interested in hearing back from you on "The Influencers of Your Life."
Joe signs off every email with this:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GOOD TO START ...
YOU JUST HAVE TO START TO BE GOOD!
