Default how to network

mark and David,
I listened to a couple of your brand radio shows and like the theme on networking. I also have learned from this networking specific forum. My question is how to network? I know it is a broad question and covered here in many ways. But I don't know how to "connect" with people when I do go to events. I don't know any good networkers. next speaker event or business party I go to, I want to answer the questions about what I do without the awkward pitch. I don't like doing it and don't like asking for what I need. I also don't know how to help others when told what they do...it is like a pointless conversation to fill space...

AaronA - the good news is you don't have to do what is not natural. The FEELING people have is what sticks.

You can tell when people are preparing to pitch - you see it in the body language - here it comes, right? Or they are not listening, waiting for their chance to pitch. Don't be that person anyway who creates that feeling.

Be yourself, ask questions and talk about what ever you want. If there is a connection, it will come out. Let if happen and don't put pressure on yourself.
When people feel comfortable with you, that will stick as the feeling. The rest will come as you learn more and opportunities to give and receive present themselves.
