Default Non-profit Cause always equals Great Networking

This past weekend provided for great food, drinks, weather and people at an annual Polo Invitational for the Cure put on by Denver Polo Club.

The weekend event benefited Renee's Friends for breast cancer awareness and Camp Fire Rockies after school programs. Both great causes with passionate people there for all reasons aforementioned.

With so much competition for time, what a great way to mingle with people when there are so many things to talk about. Relationships develop very well this way.

If you have your cause worthy of backing, great!!! If not, find that passion and get involved as a leader and/or supporter of fundraising events where you can invite your team, partners, clients, prospects and friends for a memorable experience. See ya 'round town!

Yes, I agree, David. Now, here's my only caution.

Just be sure that you truly believe in their mission. That you're not doing it to "be seen" or to "make contacts with that CEO or CFO" or to be able to sit side by side with so & so.

The 'breath test' with non-profits is they are seeking people who value their mission and vision. If you really buy into that and support that then you will make some stellar connections. They can be meaningful and long lasting and very rewarding both personally and professionally.

If you go in there with a personal agenda, that's not focused on the organization, then people will be wary and they will sense your insincerity a mile a way.

Great addition, Maria Elena! Yes, best be present for authentic reasons first. Besides, the commonality will enhance the genuine relationship.

On this topic, those more intimately involved with the non-profit from a leadership or volunteer standpoint should also share passion for the mission and vision. There are a lot of resume padders out there. In time, that strategy becomes obvious as value is not added...and that is a bad brand.

Find groups you love so the resources you offer make sense in your busy schedule and yes, the value you bring will be recognized.
