We started talking about the system for people to effectively harness the power and the presence of social media (online word of mouth). Once you're visible and make sure that you are attracting your pleasurable and profitable niche along with putting a "human voice" to your brand, give people opportunities to sample your character and competence - then do understand that social media accelerates this entire process.

"People do business with people they know, like and trust."

We've all heard the statements and countless numbers of people will lay claim to being the one to craft that statement. Either way - it's a sound statement...I don't care if you have the greatest mouse trap in the world - if I don't know you, if I don't like you and if I don't trust you - I will do business with people on the other side of the globe than do business with you.

Social Media (networks like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook - the "big 3") along with blogging constitute what we call "social media". Social media accelerates this process in a very hyper-connected fast paced society.

Complain about something on a Twitter tweet, praise someone's accomplishment on their Facebook wall...and the resulting retweets, comments, and "thumbs up" responses show you that social media IS word of mouth on steroids!

Here's the rub....social media AMPLIFIES ANYTHING about your brand.

It amplifies it - so are you amplifying the good or the bad. Are you growing towards more know, like and trust? Or, are you moving away from it with every tweet, link and update?

Here's what to do:
  • Know what the 5 attributes are that you are known for by asking three people you're close to, to describe you in five words.
  • Write down the 5 attributes you want to be known for.
  • Compare your list to their list. What's missing? What need not be there?
  • Craft your plan to plant the "word garden" of items you do want to show up and do not water the "weed words" that you don't want to be known for.
  • Make a list - what are the three things that you're doing within your social media network so that people can sample your character and competence.
  • And, then what are the three things that they are sampling right now from your social media interaction that you will stop today?
Now, the most important step here is to actually "get 'er done"!Maria Elena Duron, CEO, Buzz to Bucks, broadens the network of busy people through effective social marketing strategies.
