My RSS Feed has a consistent personal brand on, well, personal brand and career topics. Maria Elena Duron has Just Posted the Following on her blog:
In February 2009, David Sandusky and myself created #brandchat - a weekly conversation (convo for short) on Twitter all about and surrounding information on brands. Since that time, we've met some of the greatest people on Twitter - we call them the "branditos" and they happily and with great passion give of themselves each Wednesday and share the "best of the best" of their life experiences and opinions. So, the reason of "making great connections" is an obvious reason that you should moderate a Twitter chat. Here are three more:
1. Get known for being the "hub" of a discussion
Even when people may not know everything about a subject, they like to connect with people who know who to connect with. A Twitter chat gives others the chance to see that you have the answer, can find it or can quickly connect with who knows it. Everyone wants to connect with the person in "the know".
2. Reach out to your network every week
Countless networking books will say - "stay in touch in some manner every two weeks" with your close contact sphere. A Twitter chat gives you a chance to do that while garnering some lurkers, too. On a Twitter chat, everyone can see what you do and how you do it.
3. Never chat alone.
If you've not read Keith Ferrazi's book, Never Eat Alone, you need to. It gives you some solid viewpoints on the reach and depth of your network. His rule is "Never Eat Alone" -use meal times and networking times and they'll be a great way and venue to develop relationships.
I say, Never Chat Alone. Do not just send random tweets and broadcasts. Send out tweets taht are a part of the conversation such as participating in a Twitter chat. Sure, you'll be "noisy" and your tweets may flood their twitter stream for the moment but look at how it will shine a bright light on who you are. You could pass along, never before heard nuggets. Or, if you're at a conference, tweet out some great tidbits and see your online and offline network grow.
