Every Thursday morning, bright and early, I'm on our local CBS station. I've done this for three years now and have found it to be absolutely rewarding and a great challenge for a speaker to always stay "on her toes"!
This morning my mic pack fell down as I stepped up to the chair I was to sit at for our weekly interview....just as the camera light went "red" (meaning we were on and live). I looked down at the microphone while the anchor, Krista, quickly explained what happen with a very light a fun demeanor and we went on to do the interview. I had to put on my "speaker's voice" because now they were turning up her microphone volume every time I spoke so that we wouldn't lose sound quality.
We only had three minutes before the next segment so we laughed and went on. Sometimes "mic packs" fall in real life, too. You can lament and wallow in sadness over the fallen pack or you can pick up and run with what you have.
We chose to run.
How about you? Often I hear people tell me, they're doing well "under the circumstances" or "under the circumstances...that's to be expected". Well, what in the world are you doing "under there"?
Conversations that are sour or have that negative tinge are often left behind with the deliverer of such conversations seeking another group to recruit for more miserable people. (Misery loves company!)
Statements like "can't complain"; "as good as can be expected"; "getting by" or "hanging in there". Are negative speak...and negative people repel.
Are you a good conversationalist or do you find people asking if you would like a "little cheese with your whine"?
Have you seen that too in your Facebook conversations along with your real life? Facebook status updates often are tinged with "whose done me wrong" or "woe is me".
"Life isn't what happens to us...it's what we do with what happens to us."Approach your "circumstances" by not wallowing underneath them yet look at them, laugh, and go on. The quality of your conversations will improve and, in turn, so will the quality of your connections.Maria Elena Duron, CEO, Buzz to Bucks, broadens the network of busy people through effective social marketing strategies.
