If you have ever worked in a corporate environment then you know all too well how workplace politics can sway and manipulate decisions and procedures which end up not in your favor.

If you always want to be on the brighter and more positive side of workplace politics then you are going to want to follow one major thought paradigm. I’m about to let you in on a thought process that I have followed to help me land the contacts that have led me to secure an internship in my sought after career in private equity.

When you work in an environment that involves a web of people who all share the same bosses and disparities it’s easy to get into a conversation that can lead to bashing and trashing the working environment you all share.
Here is the problem EVERYTHING …and I mean EVERYTHING you say, whether positive or negative, will get back to whomever you are talking about.
Here is the conversational secret that will always keep you on the lighter side of workplace politics. ‘No matter what you’re feeling say it in a positive way.’

Here’s how…

Take the following statement, “I can’t stand my boss.” And turn it into, “You know who does a great job as a manager? Mike Jones. He would make a great manager in my department.”

Here is what happened…we just took a strong dislike about your current boss and re-asserted the negative energy into a positive tone. Two things will happen if you can take your negative thoughts and turn them into positive words.

ONE your current boss will never hear of your dislike for him or her (preventing you from getting fired faster);

TWO the manager who you represent admiration for might even hear of your positive words, which is always what you want to happen. And here’s why…

Think about it. Picture someone (we’ll call them person A) coming up to you and complimenting you on your management style. Chances are you will be somewhat flattered but still wonder and question if it is a sincere compliment. This is because in today’s cutthroat work environment we are socialized to question everything we experience. This includes direct compliments.

Now take person B, who is a third party, and picture him or her coming up to you and informing you that person A told them that they love your management style. This is more easily accepted, appreciated, and believed because it wasn't direct from the person who said it

I will always go out of my way to compliment someone behind their back.

If you apply this Positive Word of Mouth rule in your workplace you will see more promotions and recognition come your way. Guaranteed.
