Thread: Examples That Sell

  1. Examples That Sell

I do logo design and stationary with unique flare. Contracting with small marketing companies is effective for all parties and from time to time a friend of a friend calls. I need more aggressive business development activity but do not have the skills. What advice do you have for a talented designer to get more awareness?

Looking at your title to this post, "Examples That Sell", I am guessing you have plenty of examples of your work that sell.

First, with a trusted advisor, evaluate your skills with focus on communication skills to identify any natural way you can get people to look at your portfolio.

Are you social/outgoing/ well spoken = do shows, trade shows, relevant networking events.

Do you write well or enjoy the prospect of practicing your writing = newsletters, blogs, on and offline media.

Do you have an online portfolio? Website, blog and profiles work examples on social media sites? If yes, than working a strategy to drive awareness to those site will help you.

Don't go at it alone. Suround yourself with talent you do not have while identifying value you bring. Join a resource group. In denver there are a few including Indie Arsenal. If you don't see groups like this, start one!

I hope this helps and good luck!

    Re: Examples That Sell

    Les,

I understand where you are coming from, and as a freelancer web designer, I am constantly seeking out new opportunities to network, collaborate and promote my abilities.

I found that the Denver-metro area was lacking in a truly relevant and high-level cooperative environment, so I created one. I started Indie Arsenal with the intention of bringing independent freelance creatives together to share their expertise, help grow each others' businesses, and possibly even collaborate on future projects.

Membership is free and I encourage you to check it out. In 2009 I'll be bringing several online and offline resources together, and would welcome your feedback and input.

Good luck with your business development efforts!
