In every marketing strategy, personal branding matters the most. If you’re new to the business, it is very much important for you to convey a sense of worthiness and credibility to your target market. You ask why? It’s because you only get one chance to make a good and lasting first impression. If they like what they see, chances are they will come back for business. If they don’t, then you can’t expect to do business with them ever again.

Like most social media, Facebook is a great way to expose your personal brand. It saves you precious time and effort, and it is cost-effective as well. You might even think that Facebook was created really for the purpose of marketing. So how do you expose your brand on Facebook? With over 60 million people using it, a little knowledge in social networking and a little familiarization with the site would let you promote your brand effectively. I listed a few of the basic things you need to know to get maximum exposure for your brand.

1. Groups. These are formed for people who have the same interests. Primarily, these groups are made to facilitate sharing of ideas and pertinent discussions. It is therefore advisable for you to join groups if you’re on Facebook for marketing purposes. By joining a group(s) or making one, you make yourself known to other people through your comments in relevant discussions. Of course, exposure of your brand through this strategy is maximized since your audience/market is people who share the same interests with you.

2. Pages. You can build a page for yourself, and then invite “fans” or “supporters” to it. Building a page allows you to promote your personal brand without having to add people as your friend. I think this is a good idea since most people believe that “they know you just by knowing and seeing who your friends are”. Without pages, you just might be pushed to add someone to your contacts list just to make your network bigger. The downside to that however, is that you cannot be choosy in adding people up. At least if you have already created a page and you have gained supporters, then you would not have to worry about risking your personal brand. It is still important though, that you be careful about what you put on your page. Remember that whatever people see on your page automatically reflects your image.
