I'm not talking about positioning nor am I talking about marketing a message that draws people yet doesn't get to the "soul" of what you do.

I'm referring to - what are the things, attributes, passions and values that make YOU so unique?

And, are you known for them?

Planting a "word garden", is a popular exercise in the Personal Branding workshops that I provide. Essentially, what a "word garden" is are the words that people use to describe you....your brand attributes.



List down what you want to see in your word garden.

Now, do people use any of those words when they describe you? If not, then why not? Is it that it's really NOT a part of who you are? Or, is it that you're not expressing that in your daily activities and interactions?

For example, yesterday I attended a meeting where we were to finish this statement, "You wouldn't like me when..." A great opportunity to plant words in your word garden! When I say "plant words", I mean to stop and think about how you can answer that question, that is an authentic answer, yet displays what makes you unique.

Everyday....do you hide what makes you unique and reduce yourself to a commodity?
