It's the start of baseball season here in our locale as we start to smell fresh hot dogs and piles of cracker jack boxes start cropping up from what seems like nowhere! The West Texas winds are howling, the hail is falling and the grass is cut and ready for the season...typical picture of a West Texas spring day!

When I see baseball, I think back to my own youth - spending many days at Wrigley Field and singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" with Harry Carey. It was also the time when myself, my siblings and eventually my boys would run around with baseball gloves on hoping to catch a foul ball tipped just right to send it to the stands.

It's definitely the spring of Facebook as millions discover Facebook and I find I'm even stopped by Grandma's and Grandpa's at the local coffee shop asking how to share photos and tag people.

With all the noobs on Facebook, there are more opportunities for fouls. The biggest offenses are:
  • Creating a personal page for your business or organization. There are business and school pages for you to use, why not use them? It's considered a violation of Facebook's TOS (terms of service) to that so you can be deleted at anytime....anytime. Facebook is free - so now tell me what they really owe you? The excuse "but everyone else is doing it" didn't cut it for your mom and it doesn't cut the mustard here. Create a business page and leave the personal pages for a PERSON.
  • Playing every single game/application on Facebook imaginable and also spamming your friends with invites for them to play or use that same application. First, it's dangerous - there are a variety of different designers creating these applications. Second, it jeaopardizes your contacts information....now how nice an impression is that for someone who just friended you on Facebook.
  • Writing on your wall too much. Don't be a home stream hog! Un"hook" Twitter and Facebook. There are many tweets that your could be using on Twitter oblivious to the fact that everyone in Facebook land is pretty upset that your profile dominates there home feed.
It's a powerful tool that can do loads of work for you and has great presence everywhere! Just remember, it's a tool. You're the secret sauce and done correctly Facebook really does deliver location, location, location!
