You never know where you'll end up, so its always safe to say "every few years."

After working closely with many doctors during my medical school training, I've watched most of them go through several jobs, from hospital based, to private practice, and into teaching and industry jobs. Most of these career changes have been brought about by changes in family structure (ie having kids, divorce, etc) or because of burnout in their current position.

I don't expect to stay in any one role for more than a few years at this point.

Default Career vs. Job Change

The question is how many times you expect to change jobs in a career. I voted a few times per year. You hear that most people change careers a few times in their life these days. Any data on how dramatic career changes tend to be?

Default career changes

Changing careers a few times in a life is about right for most people. Each career will have multiple job changes as one moves up the ladder and/or to other companies for different experience on the career path.

Career changes come in many forms and some are very dramatic. Many times it is getting into a different industry completely or a different discipline. I have seen large corporate executives go to .coms - some stayed in the entrepreneurial ventures many went back to large corporations. I have seen accountants become recruiters because they have sales skills. Many people consult with is different from their old day job and I have seen many buy franchises...I could go on and on. What I tend to see is people getting into what they really want to do with their career and life. People just figure it out a different times - some while very young and some never do...

I selected ever few years, but almost selected annually. Having gone through trends in both time frames, I have learned that there is value in being in a job longer than one year. Long enough to make an impact. Have you seen resumes with many promotions and changes only to realize the person has not seen anything through?

I agree. Most people don't like stay at one place for ever. They like fresh feeling of change. So do I. I will be professional in two weeks. That's my choice in my career. And I am beginning with this:http://www.dvdtoiphone-converter.com

Default education

We often hear education is a career while in school. If we are always learning, is that a career that remains in parallel with our trade? Could you have multiple careers going at once and if so, how do you market your multiple careers?
