Let's have a couple’s conversation with a focus on financial compatibility. Financial compatibility means the ability to be balanced and agreeable with each other when it comes to your money.
Sounds simple, right? As always, I acknowledge that simple doesn't always mean easy. You may have entered into your present relationship with no sense of financial balance, and now find yourselves financially opposed and stressfully at odds. On the other hand, you may have been in agreement with your partner from the get-go on your financial goals, but have gotten away from communicating it gracefully and respectfully. In both cases, there is obviously a need for greater financial compatibility. So maybe being more balanced means being just as conscious of "over-saving" as you are of over-spending. And when you discuss your finances, while you may agree on certain tenets, are you able to do so in an agreeable, i.e., pleasant way? Take A Minute: Are you balanced and agreeable with each other about money? Make A Minute: Identify and commit to at least two actions that will either bring balance and agreement into your financial lives or enhance what already exists. Compatibility doesn't mean you agree on all the same things at the same time, but that you're willing to achieve and maintain an open environment for addressing the right things at the right time. When you each know that you have a safe space in which to discuss your finances, you will come to the subject more willingly and consistently, which greatly increases your overall chances for success!
